National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTA) Unveils $100 Million Digital Learning Initiative for Senior High Schools Nationwide

National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTA) Launches $100 Million Nationwide Digital Education Project for Senior High Schools.

A $100 million project aimed at enhancing digital learning in Senior High Schools nationwide was officially launched at Awudome Secondary School (AWUSCO).

This initiative seeks to improve the quality of education and reduce the gap between rural and urban schools.

The program is a collaboration between the National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTA) and Celltel Networks. It will provide digital devices such as Android smartphones, tablets, and laptops to students and teachers. Parents can purchase these devices through flexible payment plans that span from one to three years, while teachers will have up to five years to complete payments.

Celltel Networks will also supply free internet access to the participating schools, ensuring connectivity is not a barrier to digital learning.

At the launch event held in Awudome-Tsito in the Volta Region’s Ho West District, NCPTA President Christian Aikins Atsu explained that this project is part of the council’s efforts, alongside the government, to advance digital education in Senior High Schools across the country.

Mr. Atsu stressed the importance of parental involvement in supporting quality education and commended the government for backing the initiative.

Dr. Prince Kofi Kludjeson, Director of Celltel Networks, emphasized his company’s commitment to bridging the digital divide between rural and urban areas by providing internet access and digital tools in schools and communities. He described technology as essential to Ghana’s fast economic growth.

He also encouraged churches to promote ICT education among their members to keep up with rapid technological changes. Dr. Kludjeson highlighted that internet access in remote regions could also boost tourism and attract more investment.

The Headmaster of AWUSCO, Courage Meteku, expressed enthusiasm for the project. He confirmed that the school now has internet connectivity, opening up new learning opportunities for both students and teachers. He is confident the program will enhance academic outcomes and further improve the school’s strong performance.

This initiative marks a significant step toward digital inclusion in education, providing necessary resources to equip students and teachers for the future.
