NAGRAT President Urges Government to Establish Clear Policy on Mobile Phone Use in Schools

NAGRAT President Calls for Clear Policy on Student Mobile Phone Use in Schools.

The President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu, has expressed concerns about the effectiveness of the current ban on mobile phone use in schools.

According to Mr. Carbonu, the ban is not working as many students continue to use their phones secretly without facing consequences. He advocates for a clear and practical policy on mobile phone use in schools, rather than relying on an outright ban that is not being enforced properly.

Mr. Carbonu believes that a well-defined guideline would help teachers and students understand what is allowed and what is not, and would enable controlled use of mobile phones for academic purposes under strict supervision. He notes that with advancements in technology, a complete ban is unrealistic without proper systems and support. A more nuanced approach would allow students to benefit from the educational potential of mobile phones while minimizing distractions.

The debate surrounding mobile phone use in schools is complex, with some stakeholders viewing phones as a distraction, while others see them as valuable learning tools when used appropriately. Mr. Carbonu's proposal seeks to strike a balance between these perspectives, promoting responsible mobile phone use that supports learning outcomes.

To address this issue, Mr. Carbonu calls for a nationwide dialogue among education stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and policymakers.

This collaborative approach would facilitate a thorough discussion of the challenges and opportunities associated with mobile phone use in schools, ultimately leading to the development of a practical and effective policy.

By working together, educators and policymakers can create a policy that harnesses the potential of mobile technology to enhance teaching and learning.
