GNSA Directs Service Personnel to Repay Unlawful Allowances and Correct Their Status

Ghana National Service Authority Orders National Service Personnel to Refund All Illegally Allowances Received.

The Ghana National Service Authority (GNSA) has issued a stern directive to National Service personnel who have been unlawfully receiving allowances while also engaged in full-time employment.

The Authority is demanding that such individuals refund the allowances and regularize their status without delay.

This action follows a verification exercise in collaboration with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, which uncovered cases of dual income among service personnel, particularly those employed in the public sector. The directive targets individuals in the following enrolment categories:

General Enrolment (2024/2025)

•Nurses Enrolment (2025/2026)

•Teachers Enrolment (2025/2026)

Refund Process and Account Details

All affected personnel are instructed to pay back the total amount received as National Service allowance into the following account:

Bank: CBG

Account Name: National Service Authority

Account Number: 2343004100001

Branch: Manet Tower 3

After making the refund, receipts must be submitted to the nearest GNSA regional office or the Head Office in Accra to regularize one’s status.

Compliance Deadline and Penalties

The GNSA has given a two-week deadline from May 22, 2025 for all affected individuals to comply. Those who fail to meet this deadline risk the following sanctions:

•Possible prosecution

•Disciplinary action by their primary employers

•Disqualification from any future public sector employment

A Call for Integrity

The Authority urges all involved to act responsibly to avoid severe consequences. It reaffirmed its dedication to promoting transparency, discipline, and ethical conduct within the National Service scheme.

The GNSA's directive is a strong signal that it will not tolerate any breach of the service code, especially actions that undermine the integrity of public service.
