National Youth Authority Signs Memorandum of Understanding in Collaboration with Ghana Police Service to Launch Youth Training and Employment Programme
Programme
In a bold effort to tackle rising youth unemployment and improve security, the Ghana Police Service and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to kickstart a nationwide youth training and employment programme.
Under this new initiative, 12,000 youth will be selected, trained, and engaged in roles that support the Ghana Police Service. These youth will receive basic training in policing and intelligence gathering, equipping them with the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to public safety and national development.
At the official signing ceremony, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed–Mubarak described the initiative as a strategic collaboration that aligns with the government’s vision of building a safer and more inclusive society. He emphasized that effective partnerships like this are essential for both national security and economic development.
Youth Employment Minister George Opare Addo expressed his ministry’s full support and highlighted the significance of creating sustainable job opportunities for the country’s growing youth population.
Inspector General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, assured the public that the training programme will be rigorous and purposeful, with a strong focus on discipline, professionalism, and service. The CEO of the Youth Employment Agency, Malik Basintale, also praised the agreement, calling it a timely intervention that will transform lives and boost confidence in youth-focused governance.
This initiative marks a new chapter in efforts to address youth unemployment while strengthening the capacity of national institutions. If implemented effectively, it could become a model for future partnerships between security agencies and employment-focused organisations.
