Dr. Eric Nkansah, Former GES Director, Challenges Education Minister’s Claims on 2024 Teacher Recruitment

Dr. Eric Nkansah, Former GES Director, Disputes Education Minister’s Claims and Clarifies 2024 Teacher Recruitment Figures.

Dr. Eric Nkansah, former Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, has strongly refuted claims made by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu regarding the 2024 teacher recruitment process.

Minister Iddrisu alleged that 39,000 appointment letters were issued to teachers without financial clearance. However, Dr. Nkansah described this claim as misleading and factually inaccurate.

According to Dr. Nkansah, the recruitment process was conducted in accordance with official financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance. He explained that the ministry initially authorized the recruitment of 18,500 graduate teachers, with later adjustments made to include diploma holders.

Dr. Nkansah provided a detailed breakdown of the recruitment figures, stating that 17,720 teachers were employed, comprising 16,333 graduate teachers out of 16,500 approved slots and 1,387 diploma teachers out of 2,000 approved slots, leaving 780 slots unused.

Dr. Nkansah emphasized that the recruitment process was transparent and conducted in line with established procedures. He backed up his claims with official clearance documents from the Ministry of Finance, which he believes contradict the Minister's assertions. Dr. Nkansah's response aims to clarify the recruitment process and reassure stakeholders of its integrity.

In his clarification, Dr. Nkansah highlighted the importance of accuracy and transparency in public discourse, particularly regarding sensitive issues like teacher recruitment.

He expressed confidence that the facts would speak for themselves and that the truth about the recruitment process would ultimately prevail. By providing a detailed and factual account, Dr. Nkansah seeks to restore confidence in the recruitment process and demonstrate his commitment to transparency and accountability.
