Catholic Feast Days Officially Added to 2025 School Calendar – GES Confirms

GES Confirms Observance of Catholic Feast Days in 2025 School Calendar.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has authorized Catholic Basic and Second Cycle institutions, along with associated offices, to officially observe three key Catholic Days of Obligation during the 2025 academic year.

A circular issued on 15th May 2025 and signed by Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, outlines the approved dates and emphasizes their importance to the Catholic community.

Key Dates Approved for Observance.

The approved Catholic Days of Obligation for 2025 are:

Ascension Day – Thursday, 29th May 2025

Assumption Day – Friday, 15th August 2025

All Saints’ Day – Saturday, 1st November 2025

These feast days are considered sacred in the Catholic faith and are traditionally marked with special masses and community celebrations.

Communication to Schools

Regional Directors have been tasked with communicating this directive to all heads of Catholic schools under their jurisdiction. The intention is to allow Catholic institutions the freedom to celebrate these solemnities in accordance with Church traditions.

The GES’s decision reinforces its recognition of religious observances and its continued collaboration with faith-based educational institutions.
