Postgraduate Student Involved in Major Admission and Certificate Fraud Scheme

UEW Expels Postgraduate Student for Leading Major Admission and Certificate Fraud Scheme

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has taken decisive action against a postgraduate student found at the center of an extensive admission and certification scam.

Frank Anderson, an MPhil candidate in the Department of Special Education, has been expelled from the institution following revelations of his involvement in a wide-ranging fraudulent operation.

In a statement released by the university, authorities revealed that Anderson was implicated in cases of admission fraud, forgery of certificates, and manipulation of academic records.

Legal proceedings are currently underway against him on charges that include extortion and the falsification of official university documents.

UEW's internal investigation identified Anderson as the architect of a scheme that preyed on hopeful applicants.

Operating in areas such as Suhum, Mangoase, Nsawam, and Winneba, he promised services such as altering academic grades, resolving incomplete grade issues, and offering illicit “Protocol Admissions” in exchange for payments ranging between GHS 1,000 and GHS 3,000.

Although the fraud network was unsuccessful in breaching UEW’s official grading platform, OSIS 2, they managed to generate forged PDF transcripts and fake WASSCE certificates to support the illegal admission of several individuals.

In response, the university has nullified all admissions linked to the fraudulent scheme and withdrawn students who paid for grade alterations.

Officials emphasized that Anderson acted on his own, with no authorization or collaboration from the university.

UEW reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on academic malpractice. “The University of Education, Winneba upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and will continue to implement strict measures to deter and punish fraudulent conduct,” the statement said.

The university also pledged its continued cooperation with law enforcement agencies to ensure that all those involved are held accountable under the law. Anderson remains in custody as his trial continues at the Winneba High Court.
