A terrifying scene unfolded at Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, Ashanti Region, on Friday, April 4, 2025, when a Form Two student opened fire on two classmates during break time.According to eyewitnesses, the student, Bernard Amoabeng, brought a firearm to school and became involved in a heated argument with other students over whether the weapon was real and functional.
In a shocking turn, Bernard allegedly fired the gun in an attempt to prove it worked, reportedly saying, “I was testing the gun.”
One of the victims, identified only as Penamang, was struck in the forehead and was initially taken to Kwadaso Hospital.
She was later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital due to the critical nature of her injuries and is currently receiving intensive care.
The second student, whose identity has not yet been released, also sustained injuries, though their condition remains unclear.
Police from Suame quickly intervened, arresting the suspect and launching an investigation into how the firearm was obtained and smuggled onto campus. School authorities are assisting with the ongoing inquiry.
The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the school community, sparking widespread concern among parents, educators, and the public.
Many are calling for strengthened school security, better supervision, and enhanced counselling services to prevent future tragedies of this kind.
