GES Releases 2024/2025 School Calendar for KG, Primary, and JHS.


The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the 2024/2025 academic calendar for all public basic schools, covering Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High School (JHS). 

The calendar outlines the schedule for all three academic terms, with a total of 40 weeks of contact time. Here's a detailed breakdown to guide teachers, parents, and guardians through the academic year.

First Term (14 Weeks)

In-School Period:
All pupils from Kindergarten to JHS 3 are expected to report to school on 10th September 2024, with classes running until 19th December 2024.

Vacation:
The first term vacation begins on 20th December 2024 and ends on 6th January 2025. Schools reopen on 7th January 2025.

Second Term (14 Weeks)

In-School Period:
The second term begins on 8th January 2025 and runs until 17th April 2025.

Vacation:
Pupils will be on break from 18th April 2025 to 4th May 2025, returning to school on 5th May 2025.

Third Term (12 Weeks)

In-School Period:
The final term of the academic year starts on 6th May 2025. For Kindergarten to JHS 2, the term continues until 24th July 2025, which marks the end of the academic year.

JHS 3 Students:
Students in JHS 3 will remain in school after the third term to prepare for the BECE, scheduled for July 2025. Their academic year officially ends after the examination.

Total Contact Time

The academic calendar includes 40 weeks of effective teaching and learning, aimed at providing enough time to complete the curriculum and prepare learners adequately for assessments and promotions.

Final Thoughts
