GES Introduces Nationwide Aftercare Support for TM1 Laptop Users

GES Rolls Out Free Technical Support for TM1 Laptop Beneficiaries.

As part of ongoing efforts to sustain digital integration in Ghana’s education sector, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched a comprehensive technical support programme for beneficiaries of the TM1 laptops.

The initiative, titled KATCARE, is intended to provide nationwide aftercare services to all users whose devices are still within the two-year warranty period.

The rollout, which commenced on March 24, 2025, in the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions, is scheduled to continue until April 30, 2025.

According to GES, the programme will be extended to other regions in a phased approach, with dates and schedules to be announced subsequently.

This initiative is being implemented by the customer care unit of KA Technologies—the official supplier of the TM1 laptops under the government’s One Teacher, One Laptop policy.

Through the KATCARE programme, technical support teams will visit schools across the country to assess and resolve hardware issues related to manufacturing defects.

These repairs will be carried out at no cost to the user, provided the devices are still covered under the warranty.

However, the GES has clarified that the free support does not extend to issues caused by user negligence.

This includes damages such as cracked screens, broken hinges, water exposure, or malfunctioning keyboards resulting from mishandling. In such cases, users will be required to cover the cost of repairs and any necessary replacement parts or accessories.

In a communication signed by Professor Smile Dzisi, Acting Deputy Director-General (Management Services), GES has instructed all Regional Directors to disseminate this information to teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as District ICT Coordinators, through their respective District, Municipal, and Metropolitan Directorates.

The Service emphasized the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure the success of this initiative.

The provision of aftercare support is not only a maintenance effort but also a strategic step toward maintaining the integrity and continuity of digital teaching and learning in schools.

By offering this support, GES aims to reinforce the value of the TM1 project and ensure that teachers across the country continue to benefit from uninterrupted access to reliable digital tools, which are essential for delivering quality education in a modern learning environment.
