GES Calls on District Directors to Present List of Special Needs Candidates for 2025 BECE & WASSCE
GES Urges District Directors to Submit 2025 BECE & WASSCE Special Needs Candidates List.
The Ghana Education Service (GES), through its Regional Education Office in Koforidua, has issued a directive to all Municipal and District Directors of Education regarding the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).In a letter dated April 4, 2025, GES is requesting the list of candidates with special educational needs who may require reasonable accommodation during these crucial national exams.
This call follows an earlier letter from the Special Education Division (SpED) dated March 24, 2025.
Promoting Inclusive Education.
GES emphasized that this initiative aligns with Ghana's Inclusive Education Policy, which seeks to ensure that learners with special educational needs are not left behind.
The policy mandates that such learners be provided with the necessary support systems to help them fully participate in academic activities—including national assessments—on a level playing field.
Reasonable accommodation, in this context, refers to the tailored support given to such candidates to ease their participation in the BECE and WASSCE.
These supports are essential in helping students with diverse needs demonstrate their knowledge and skills during exams without being disadvantaged by their conditions.
Submission Guidelines
All Municipal and District Directors are to compile and submit the list of affected candidates from both public and private schools within their jurisdiction.
Importantly, these candidates should already be practicing the mode of support they are requesting for the exams.
Furthermore, medical reports should be attached to confirm the need for such accommodations.
Directors are to send the compiled lists via WhatsApp to the Regional SpED Coordinator using the number 0550108631 no later than 12th April 2025. A template has been provided to facilitate the submission process.
