Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh Rules Out 2028 Presidential Ambitions.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, widely known as Napo and former running mate to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has firmly stated that he will not be contesting in the 2028 presidential race.

His remarks came ahead of a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the NPP in Accra, where major decisions concerning the party’s future are set to be deliberated.

Speaking to journalists during a party gathering, Dr. Opoku Prempeh dispelled rumours suggesting he was eyeing the presidency.

“I’m not running in 2028,” he stated clearly, emphasizing that his focus remains on promoting unity within the NPP after their defeat in the 2024 general elections to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dr. Opoku Prempeh underscored the importance of togetherness within the party, noting that cohesion is essential as the NPP navigates its path forward.

The NEC meeting, held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, drew high-profile attendees including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia.

The agenda is expected to include strategies for rebuilding the party and addressing internal concerns following the electoral loss.

As discussions unfold, the party’s leadership continues to grapple with questions about its future direction and how to regain public confidence after its recent electoral setback.
