Auditor-General Launches Nationwide Payroll Audit Across Government Institutions

Nationwide Payroll Audit Underway for Government Ministries and Agencies

The Office of the Auditor-General has announced the commencement of a comprehensive payroll audit covering all Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and subvented organisations under the Government of Ghana.

The audit exercise is set to review payroll data spanning from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024.

According to the Auditor-General, Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, the audit will include a physical headcount of all government employees on the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) payroll.

This nationwide initiative aims to ensure the integrity of government payroll records and identify any irregularities.

To ensure the successful and timely execution of this audit, the Auditor-General has requested full cooperation from all affected entities.

This includes granting auditors unrestricted access to financial records, reports, and other relevant documents—both physical and digital—as stipulated in Article 187(3) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 11(2) of the Audit Service Act, 2000 (Act 584).

An attachment labeled “Appendix A” outlines specific documents that entities are expected to make available during the audit.

Additionally, Ministries are advised to alert all affiliated agencies to prepare for the exercise, which forms part of ongoing efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and effective financial management in public institutions.

Stakeholders are encouraged to provide the necessary support to auditors throughout the process.
