UCC Welcomes 24,863 New Students in Virtual Matriculation Ceremony.
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has officially welcomed its fresh students for the 2024/2025 academic year through a virtual matriculation ceremony. The event, which took place on March 15, 2025, was broadcast from the university’s Board Chamber and streamed to various locations, including residence halls, hostels, satellite campuses, and study centers.
Vice Chancellor’s Message to Students
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong, urged students to remain focused on their academic goals, emphasizing that their primary purpose at UCC is to pursue knowledge and excel in their studies.
He stressed that the university upholds a strong academic tradition and advised students to make the most of the opportunities available to them.
“Our esteemed faculty is committed to your success. Attend lectures regularly, engage in discussions, complete assignments on time, and prepare thoroughly for assessments. These habits will set you on the path to academic excellence while helping you avoid pitfalls such as examination malpractice,” he advised.
Embracing UCC’s Core Values
Prof. Boampong further encouraged students to embody the university’s core values, which include Academic Excellence, Empowerment, Equality, Ethical Conduct, and Environmental Consciousness. According to him, these principles will shape their academic journey and personal development.
Additionally, he reminded students to adhere to the university’s rules and policies, explaining that these guidelines are in place to create a structured and productive learning environment.
“The regulations here are not meant to restrict you but to promote order and ensure the smooth functioning of the institution. I encourage you to familiarize yourselves with them, as they are essential to your academic progress and overall experience. Ultimately, our aim is to see each of you graduate successfully,” he stated.
Breakdown of Admissions
This academic year, UCC has admitted a total of 24,863 students into its undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Among them, 13,059 are regular students, while 11,804 are enrolled in distance learning programs. The total student population consists of 12,660 males and 12,203 females.
