UCC Hospital Receives Vital Medical Equipment from IAO, UCC

The Institutional Affiliation Office (IAO) of the University of Cape Coast has donated essential medical equipment to the University Hospital to enhance healthcare delivery.

The items, which include ceiling lamps and theatre beds, were presented as part of the IAO’s commitment to supporting the hospital with critical resources.

Commitment to Healthcare Improvement

Dr. Justice Agyenim-Boateng, Head of the Institutional Affiliation Office, explained that the donation fulfills a pledge made to equip the hospital with essential tools for its operations. He expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong, for his support in approving and overseeing the procurement process.

Dr. Agyenim-Boateng also encouraged other units within the university to contribute to the hospital’s development, emphasizing the facility's significance for staff and the wider community.

“This hospital serves all of us, and ensuring its proper resourcing means that in emergencies, we won’t have to travel long distances, which can sometimes be life-threatening due to traffic and road conditions,” he noted.

Enhancing Surgical Efficiency

Receiving the donation, Dr. James Kojo Prah, Director of the Directorate of University Health Services, expressed gratitude to the IAO for fulfilling its promise. He highlighted that the additional theatre equipment will enable the hospital to conduct multiple surgical procedures simultaneously.

“There have been instances where multiple patients required surgery at the same time, but with only one theatre, some had to wait. With this new addition, another surgeon can operate concurrently, allowing us to provide more timely care and ultimately save more lives,” he explained.

Once installed, the equipment will enhance surgical services for university staff, their dependents, and residents of surrounding communities, significantly improving healthcare accessibility and efficiency.
