TRANSFER GRANT & OTHER ALLOWANCES: Ghana Education Service Takes Steps to Address Teachers’ Challenges

GES Initiates Process to Pay Transfer Grants and Other Allowances for Teachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken steps to address some of the financial challenges faced by teachers through the payment of Transfer Grants and Other Allowances.

In a letter dated March 3, 2025, the GES outlined procedures for the submission of data required to process these payments for eligible staff who qualify for the years 2023 and 2024.

Key Details from the Official Communication

Eligibility Criteria:

•The GES has specified that only certain categories of staff are eligible for these allowances. The guidelines state that:

•Teachers who requested transfers to their current stations do not qualify.

•Transfers that cover a distance less than 50 kilometers are not eligible for the grant.

Submission Process

To streamline the process, GES has adopted an online submission system. Regional Directors are required to ensure that all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Education Offices (MMDEs) compile and submit data through the following steps:

1.)  Individual Submissions:

•Access the online form at https://forms.gle/SKfDVBdn7CW5tZpK6.

•Sign in using a Gmail account.

•Complete the form and upload all supporting documents for each applicant.

2.) Summary Submission:

Submit summary sheets using the existing template through a second form available at https://forms.gle/vwwvgBra7zkNtuBS7.

Important Notes for Submission

•Accuracy is essential—incomplete or incorrect submissions may cause delays in processing payments.

•Only staff who meet the eligibility requirements should be included in the submissions.

GES Commitment to Teacher Welfare

The GES emphasizes that this initiative is part of its broader commitment to addressing the concerns of teachers and ensuring they receive the allowances they are entitled to. Regional Directors and other key stakeholders are urged to cooperate fully to facilitate the timely and efficient processing of these payments.
