Teacher Trainees' Association of Ghana (TTAG) Update on Key Issues Affecting Colleges of Education.

The Teacher Trainees' Association of Ghana (TTAG) has issued a comprehensive statement addressing the pressing concerns of Colleges of Education (CoEs). President H.E. Soale Razak's announcement provides reassurance to trainees and furnishes updates on the proactive measures being taken to resolve these challenges.

Key Issues Addressed

National Service Postings

President Razak has provided clarification regarding the accreditation status of CoEs, confirming that the National Service Authority (NSA) has received official communication from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). This assurance guarantees that no trainee will be precluded from participating in national service due to accreditation issues. TTAG, in collaboration with the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), is diligently working to resolve any ancillary challenges.

Trainee Allowances

In a significant development, President Razak has confirmed that the outstanding allowances of teacher trainees, including three months of arrears for the 2024 graduating class, will be disbursed. This announcement brings relief to numerous trainees who have been awaiting their payments.

Release of Examination Results.

President Razak has acknowledged the delays in the release of examination results from affiliate universities. Following engagements with five out of six affiliate universities, TTAG has identified that these delays were primarily attributable to trainees' failure to adhere to course registration and fee payment deadlines. Notably, examination results have been successfully released by KNUST, UEW, and UG (Graduate class), with TTAG working assiduously to resolve anomalies with UDS.

Upcoming Initiatives

TTAG has outlined a series of forthcoming initiatives designed to enhance the welfare and academic experiences of teacher trainees:

Pedagogy Challenge Competition: An inter-college competition scheduled for March 22, 2025, at St. Louis College of Education, aimed at promoting innovative teaching methods.

- *Women Empowerment Programme*: A targeted initiative focused on supporting women's commissioners in Colleges of Education, promoting gender equality and empowerment.

National Secretariat: The initiation of construction on a National Secretariat for TTAG, designed to enhance administrative efficiency and provide a centralized hub for operations.

Temporary Office Space: The securing of temporary office accommodations to facilitate seamless day-to-day operations.

Affordable Laptop Initiative: The introduction of a program aimed at providing affordable laptops to teacher trainees, bridging the digital divide and enhancing academic productivity.

University Satisfaction Survey: A comprehensive survey designed to assess trainee satisfaction with mentoring universities, promoting competitive academic standards and informed decision-making.

Statutory Activities: A range of activities, including Congress, handover ceremonies, and award schemes, designed to maintain organizational transparency, celebrate achievements, and foster a sense of community among trainees.
