Mahama Proposes Two-Day Holiday for Eid ul-Fitr

President John Dramani Mahama has proposed an additional public holiday for the Muslim celebration of Eid ul-Fitr.

Speaking at sod-cutting ceremony for a new Hajj Village on Friday, February 28, he stated that the move honors a campaign promise and acknowledges the Muslim community's contributions to national development.

President Mahama mentioned that he has instructed the legal counsel at the presidency, Madam Marietta Brew, to begin the process of amending the Public Holidays Act to make this change official.

If approved, the new arrangement will allow two public holidays at the end of Ramadan, beginning this year.
