Mahama Vows to End Textbook Crisis and Enhance Educational Support.

President John Dramani Mahama has criticized former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration for introducing a new curriculum without providing the necessary textbooks for students.

Speaking at Jubilee Park in Tamale on Saturday, March 22, as part of his ‘thank you’ tour, President Mahama assured that his government has set aside GHC564.6 million to procure textbooks, aiming to enhance learning in basic schools.

He further stated that Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu is overseeing the initiative, ensuring that the textbooks are produced locally to strengthen Ghana’s economy.

"The previous administration revised the curriculum but failed to supply textbooks for our basic school students. This challenge will be resolved this year.

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, your own son, is in charge of implementation and has assured us that these textbooks will be printed by Ghanaian publishers so that the money remains within our economy," President Mahama emphasized.

In addition to addressing the textbook deficit, President Mahama highlighted efforts to expand the school feeding programme by increasing funding to improve the quality of meals provided to students.

He also announced that his administration has allocated resources to distribute free sanitary pads to female students, supporting their education and well-being.

"We have made provisions to ensure female students receive free sanitary pads," he reiterated.
