Jean Mensa Advocates for Greater Efforts to Close Gender Gap on International Women’s Day.
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, Jean Mensa, has called for increased efforts to promote gender equality, acknowledging progress made while emphasizing the need for continued action to address existing challenges.
In a statement marking International Women’s Day on March 8, Mrs. Mensa extended her congratulations to the female staff of the Commission, recognizing their dedication, resilience, and professionalism in upholding credible electoral processes. She highlighted their significant role in delivering the peaceful and transparent electoral outcomes of December 7, 2024.
She also paid tribute to the pioneering women who have paved the way for future generations, acknowledging Ghana’s strides in advancing gender equality. However, Mrs. Mensa pointed out that substantial barriers remain, limiting the full participation of women and girls across various sectors.
Urging stakeholders to strengthen efforts toward fostering an inclusive society, she called for the creation of environments where women and girls can access equal opportunities and fair representation.
“Let us come together to accelerate progress and build a fair and just society for all,” she stated, stressing the importance of collective action in achieving gender parity.
Addressing young women and girls, Mrs. Mensa encouraged them to remain confident and determined, commending their courage and resilience. She described them as a source of inspiration and a reflection of the transformative potential women hold in shaping the nation’s future.
She also honored the contributions of women who have played a critical role in the Commission’s work over the past three decades, reaffirming the EC’s commitment to advancing gender equality and ensuring women maintain a strong presence in Ghana’s democratic institutions.
