GTEC Instructs Colleges of Education to Discontinue Use of "Tutor" Title

GTEC Directs Colleges of Education to Stop Using "Tutor" Title

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has made a significant change in the titles of teaching staff within Colleges of Education.

From now on, "tutors" will be officially known as "Lecturers," replacing the old title of "Tutors." This change follows the recent move of faculty and staff to the public universities' salary structure.

As a result, the old "Tutor" title is no longer suitable, and a change was needed. Professor Augustine Ocloo, Acting Deputy Director-General of GTEC, emphasized the importance of this change, stating that the "Tutor" title is no longer appropriate.

The commission has also reminded Colleges of Education that the rules and requirements of affiliate universities will now apply to staff appointments and promotions.

This initiative aims to standardize titles within the tertiary education system, aligning with the new salary structure and benefits.

The expected outcome is an improvement in the professional status and recognition of teaching staff within Colleges of Education.

This strategic move is expected to enhance the professional stature and reputation of teaching staff, and bring them on par with their counterparts in public universities.
