In a strategic effort to strengthen higher education in Ghana, the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has announced a new local scholarship initiative. 

Under this program, each public university will receive government funding to support five Ghanaian PhD students. This initiative seeks to increase access to advanced education and promote the development of local academic expertise.


Key Details of the Announcement

1.) Local PhD Scholarship Program

– The government will provide financial support to every public university to sponsor five PhD students.

– This initiative aims to reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign scholarships while enhancing the capacity of local educational institutions.


2.) Establishment of a Local Scholarship Secretariat

– A dedicated Local Scholarship Secretariat will be established to oversee and manage the scholarship program.

– Ghanaians are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this opportunity for academic advancement.


1) Enhancing Access to Quality Education

The government remains committed to improving educational access and outcomes across all levels, from primary school to higher education. This PhD scholarship initiative forms part of a broader policy agenda aimed at strengthening the nation’s educational infrastructure and academic resources.


2.) Digital Technological Hub for Education

As part of efforts to modernize education, a Digital Technological Hub will be established to integrate advanced technology into the educational system. This hub will focus on fostering digital literacy and innovation, starting from the pre-tertiary level.


3.) Completion of GETFund Projects

The government has pledged to complete all ongoing projects under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to improve educational infrastructure nationwide. This commitment ensures that public institutions are equipped with the necessary resources to deliver quality education.


4.) Curriculum Review

A comprehensive review of the national curriculum is planned to address existing challenges and align educational content with the needs of modern learners. This review aims to enhance the relevance and effectiveness of the curriculum in preparing students for future opportunities.


5.) STEM Education in Every Region

Each region in Ghana will have a dedicated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) school. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to equipping students with essential skills for the evolving job market and fostering innovation-driven learning.

2025 Salary Adjustment Announced for Public Service Institutions on the Single Spine Structure The Government of Ghana has approved a 10% across-the-board salary increase for all public sector institutions under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).  This follows the successful conclusion of negotiations on the 2025 base pay, as confirmed in a recent communication from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
