Government to Improve Accommodation and Support for Tertiary Students.

Ministry of Education has reiterated its dedication to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students in technical universities.

At a grand durbar marking Bolgatanga Technical University's 25th anniversary, Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Abas Apaak reaffirmed the government's commitment to prioritizing student welfare and academic success.

Representing the sector minister, Haruna Iddrisu, Dr. Apaak emphasized the importance of addressing the holistic needs of students to ensure their academic excellence and personal growth.

"Recognizing the significance of student welfare, this government is resolute in its commitment to enhancing the overall student experience in technical universities," Dr. Apaak stated.

"We acknowledge that students require access to affordable accommodation, reliable transportation, quality healthcare services, and financial aid programs to excel academically."

Key Initiatives Announced

During the ceremony, Dr. Apaak outlined several comprehensive measures the government intends to implement:

No-Academic-Fee Policy (No-Fees-Stress Initiative): A substantial allocation of GH¢499.8 million will cover academic fees for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions, alleviating financial burdens and promoting equitable access to education.

Enhanced Student Loan Scheme: The government will introduce improvements to increase the accessibility and efficiency of student loan disbursement.

This aims to prevent students from dropping out due to financial difficulties, ensuring that economic constraints do not hinder academic pursuits.

Improved Campus Infrastructure: Plans are underway to expand hostels, recreational facilities, and digital libraries. These upgrades will foster a more conducive learning environment, supporting students' academic, social, and personal development.

Enhanced Internship and Job Placement Programs: The government will establish stronger connections with industry leaders to facilitate a smoother transition from education to employment.

This collaborative approach will provide students with invaluable work experience, mentorship, and job opportunities, bridging the gap between academia and industry.

Mental Health and Counseling Services: The government will prioritize strengthening student support systems to provide guidance, career counseling, and mental health services to students in need. This comprehensive approach will promote students' emotional well-being, academic resilience, and overall success.

Acknowledging Excellence

Dr. Apaak took the opportunity to commend the leadership of Bolgatanga Technical University, past and present, for their tireless dedication and service to the institution. He acknowledged the vital role of faculty and staff in shaping the next generation of professionals, emphasizing the significance of their contributions.

"Your efforts in shaping minds and nurturing talents will forever remain invaluable," Dr. Apaak stated. "To the faculty and staff, your commitment to excellence and mentorship is deeply appreciated. Your role in molding the next generation of professionals is one that cannot be overstated."

By reaffirming its commitment to enhancing the student experience, the Ministry of Education demonstrates its dedication to promoting academic excellence, student well-being, and national development.
