GNAT Urges Action on Lower Rank Promotion, Salary Reactivation, and Upgrading Concerns for Teachers

Lower Rank Promotion, Salary Reactivation, Upgrading – GNAT Demands Solutions for Teacher Issues.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has addressed a pressing letter to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), highlighting pivotal concerns affecting teachers nationwide.

These longstanding issues have precipitated widespread distress among teachers, compromising their morale, instructional efficacy, and overall educational

The GNAT's communiqué elucidates five critical areas requiring immediate redress:

1. Reintroduction of the Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS)

Issue: GNAT vehemently opposes the reinstatement of HRMIS, citing its tumultuous past implementation, which yielded myriad problems, including salary processing delays, promotional errors, and HR dysfunction.

Demand: GNAT demands the immediate withdrawal of HRMIS to prevent further adverse impacts on educators.

2.) Salary Re-activation

Issue: A substantial number of educators (810 as of December 2024) have endured inordinate delays in salary reactivation, spanning 4-12 months. This protracted delay has inflicted financial hardship on affected teachers, who continue to discharge their duties without remuneration.

Demand: GNAT demands immediate rectification of this issue, ensuring that affected educators receive their full salaries and any arrears owed to them.

3.) Returnees from Further Studies.

Issue: Teachers who have completed advanced studies, including self-sponsored programs, are being denied upgrading upon their return to service. This denial has deleterious effects on their career progression and morale.

Demand: GNAT demands that these teachers be upgraded to reflect their new qualifications and status, thereby boosting morale within the service.

4.) Upgrading and Promotion.

Issue: Over 300 teachers promoted in 2023, subsequent to passing requisite aptitude tests, remain unplaced on their correct salary scales. This delay has fostered frustration and demotivation among affected educators.

Demand: GNAT demands that these teachers be placed on their correct salary scales immediately to reflect their new status and improve morale.

5.) Lower Rank Promotion

Issue: Numerous teachers below the rank of Principal Superintendent, who successfully navigated the last promotion exercise, remain unupgraded and incorrectly ranked. This anomaly has perpetrated perceived injustices and disparities within the teaching fraternity.

Demand: GNAT demands that these teachers be upgraded and placed on their correct ranks to reflect their new status.

 and boost their morale.

GNAT emphasizes the imperative need for prompt resolutions to these pressing concerns, underscoring the necessity for harmony, peace, and stability within the teaching profession.

The association cautions that failure to address these grievances may precipitate instability and potential industrial action.
