DSTV to Increase Subscription Prices by 15% Starting April 1

DSTV to Increase Subscription Prices by 15% Starting 1st April.

MultiChoice Ghana (DSTV) has announced an upcoming adjustment to its subscription fees, set to take effect on April 1, 2025. This revision will see an average price increase of 15% across all subscriber packages.

The move follows two price hikes in 2024, which sparked dissatisfaction among customers. Many subscribers expressed frustration over the frequent adjustments, citing financial strain and concerns over the value they receive from the service.

Consumer Advocacy Group Raises Concerns.

CUTS International, a consumer rights organization, has voiced concerns regarding the short notice provided for the price increase.

The group emphasized the importance of transparent communication, arguing that subscribers deserve ample time to assess their options before such adjustments take effect.

In a statement, CUTS International highlighted the need for better engagement with consumers:

"The short notice may not have given subscribers enough time to review their options or make necessary adjustments. Respect for consumers is fundamental in any market, especially when services are prepaid and recurring.

Transparent communication about price changes helps to build trust and foster good customer relationships."

A Broader Regional Concern

Similar discontent has been observed in other markets. In Nigeria, a proposed DSTV price increase was met with widespread backlash, with many customers rejecting the hike outright.

This reaction underscores growing frustrations across Africa regarding frequent price adjustments by major service providers.

As the new pricing structure takes effect, it remains to be seen how Ghanaian consumers will respond. Will MultiChoice address these concerns by offering more flexible payment options or enhanced service packages?

The coming weeks will reveal whether the company’s latest decision strengthens customer loyalty or fuels further dissatisfaction.
