I Would Have Been Happy If NPP Had Chosen Me as Running Mate in 2024 – Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.



Former Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has disclosed that he would have been delighted to serve as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate in the 2024 general elections under the New Patriotic Party (NPP). 

Speaking in an interview with Asaasepa Radio, the Bosomtwe legislator emphasized his willingness to contribute to the nation’s governance at a higher level. However, he stressed that he would not force his way into such a position but rather allow divine guidance to shape his political path.

“I believe God has a plan for every individual. When the appointed time comes, nothing can prevent His will from manifesting. 

I will not act in haste but will wait for His direction. If I had been chosen as the running mate, I would have been very happy,” Dr. Adutwum remarked.

Many political analysts had considered Dr. Adutwum a strong contender for the position, given his reputation as a diligent and composed leader with broad appeal across party lines. 

Despite this, the NPP ultimately selected former Energy Minister and Manhyia South legislator as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate.

The party’s decision, however, did not yield the desired electoral outcome. The NPP suffered a significant defeat in the 2024 general elections, securing only 88 out of the 275 parliamentary seats, marking one of its poorest performances in recent years.
