Catholic Bishops and Christian Council Criticize Exclusion from National Education Forum.

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) and the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) have expressed disappointment over their exclusion from the upcoming National Education Forum, scheduled to take place on February 18 and 19, 2025.

In a joint statement, the two religious bodies acknowledged that while some organizations affiliated with them had received invitations, the GCBC and CCG themselves had been left out. They described this as concerning, given their longstanding role in shaping and supporting Ghana’s education system.

“For decades, we have contributed significantly to the development of education in Ghana, ensuring that schools uphold high standards and remain accessible to all, regardless of social or religious background,” the statement read.

Concerns Over Stakeholder Exclusion.

The GCBC and CCG stressed that a national forum of such importance should involve all key stakeholders. They argued that excluding them diminishes the inclusivity and effectiveness of discussions aimed at improving the country’s education sector.

“As institutions deeply invested in education, we believe that national conversations on educational reforms should be comprehensive, drawing input from all relevant groups,” they stated. “Our exclusion is not just a disservice to us but to the broader educational community.”

Call for Inclusion and Constructive Dialogue

The religious organizations called on the government to reconsider and extend invitations to them, as well as other essential bodies. They emphasized their readiness to contribute meaningfully to policy discussions, advocating for measures that will enhance education for all Ghanaian children.

“We remain committed to constructive dialogue and collaboration with the government and other stakeholders to ensure that Ghana’s education system continues to evolve in ways that benefit every child,” they added.

The statement concluded by urging authorities to foster greater inclusivity in national education discussions, ensuring that every relevant voice is heard in shaping policies that impact the future of education in Ghana.
