GES Begins Public Survey on Free SHS and Double Track System |
This effort aims to evaluate their impact and identify the challenges faced by students, parents, and teachers.
The announcement was made on GES’s official Facebook page on Saturday, February 22, 2025. The survey seeks to assess public awareness and understanding of these educational policies, gauge their effectiveness, and pinpoint areas requiring improvement.
The Free SHS policy, introduced to remove financial barriers to secondary education, has expanded access to schooling across Ghana.
However, it has also faced criticism regarding overcrowded classrooms, inadequate infrastructure, and concerns about the quality of education—particularly under the Double Track System, which was implemented to accommodate the increased student population.
GES is urging students, parents, educators, and the general public to participate in the survey by sharing their experiences and offering suggestions for potential reforms.
This initiative coincides with the ongoing National Education Forum in Ho, Volta Region, which commenced on February 18, 2025. The forum brings together education experts, policymakers, and key stakeholders to evaluate Ghana’s education system and propose strategies for its improvement.
According to GES, responses from the survey will be analyzed and integrated into the forum’s discussions, helping shape future educational policies.
This public consultation represents a crucial step in assessing whether the Free SHS and Double Track System are achieving their intended objectives or require policy adjustments.
As national discourse on education reform continues, the survey’s findings could significantly influence the future direction of Ghana’s educational landscape.
